Addy is a good gutarist and the band was solid during that performance. I was at the TV theatre, can’t even hear Aliff’s voice!? He doesn’t have a wide range vocals and a powerful voice to carry that song

Sudah Ku Duga …. it all in the script who is the winner. if only Shafinaz was invited to semi-final episod .definetly. Aliff will not be in the FINAL .. He IN becoz he overrated by the eddy and rahimah. But i happy,Shafinaz did mentioned suara ALiff yg ” angin ” and “breathing prob” . WHY didn’t eddy& rahimah comment it frm the begining.. PLS to Suria – do not take them as the judge anymore . sungguh memalukan industrial music. bila kat final baru si rahimah sibuk nak mentioned .

True. Addy Cradle played a part. A crucial part, in fact. But so did Abg Atan (Flybaits), the violinist and the other sessionist. Too bad that the other contestants did not acknowledge their contributions.

Expected: Kak Girl did mention his angin voice. And people who do know abt singing knows that the problem lies in projection. This can be remedied.

Maiya was good. In fact, the best. Nurun was, unfortunately, not well. She was flat during her judges’ choice segment. Roslan has very nice tone. The best tone, I would have to say.

Unfortunately, Aliff has the overall package. Vocal capabilities (unless one is a croaking bull frog) can be rectified. Looks, unfortunately, can’t. I am not saying the rest are ugly. Just, like I mentioned earlier, Aliff has the overall package.

… and, of course, if you are in the TV Theatre, you cant hear them. Least of all Aiff with his poor projection.

It’s the audio thingy.

Note that most of them were sharp in their singing. More sharps than flat. Maybe it was cold. Maybe it was nerves.

Been there, done that.

I wish to add to neutralist entry that Aliff needs alot of work to rectify his way of singing because he lets out alot of air which affects his singing if he has to sing songs with long pharses, which if he has his own album and he sings the way he is now, he will only be able to sing short phrases before he’s out of breath.

As for overall package looks can be easily recify rather than learning to achieve good vocal techniques, if I were to strike the iron while it’s hot, for any recording company I would take Maiya instantly and work on her groove or moves and slim her down before the realease of her album coz she can sing live with good projection now.

Rather than having to learn the vocal techniques before recording an album which by then would have taken a longer time for an album to be released. Aliff is maybe for the future but for now it should be Maiya or Roslan because they can do it.

Yes I agree most of them were nervous on the night but more relaxed as the show moves on.

I wish to correct you that Maiya did acknowledged the sessionist if you look at her body language during the performance on the playbacks

Thank you for the reply, Izarrudin. You could do wonders with audio technology. Realy wonderful. Syed Azmir managed to hide his Rs deficiencies in his album.

We have wonderful vocal instructors who are miracle workers when it comes to turning “too-much-air-in-vocals” vocalists into delightful crooners.

It seemed confusing that you are contradictiong your own words. While maintaining that one should “strike while the iron is hot”, in the same breath you are also suggesting to send Maiya on a crash diet. That could take weeks or even months. Our very own Haryani’s (2nd runner up when Indra Hamzah won) album never took off. Neither did the eventual winner, Indra. Rather, it was Iskandar who managed to rock the world.

I was most unfortunate not to be trained in body language. And I believe many viewers do not have body language reading skills like you do. Perhaps if Maiya had voiced out her acknowledgement of her sessionist’s contribution, she could have won.

On a more logical ground, looks do sell. That explains why good singers like Mathilda (SI2), Nana (SI1), Farhan (AF4) got booted out.

It is most unfortunate. If only the mentality is that consumers aka end product buyers would resort to LISTENING rather than oogling at their singers, then Maiya would have been our newly crowned Anugerah Champion.

What I meant was the difference in time schedule for someone who can go straight into recording like Maiya and Roslan as compared to Aliff who had to undergo crash courses for vocals which will hinder the process of any album recordings.

But as you’ve pointed out that audio technology nowadays can do wonders to any album recordings but when it comes to live performances the audience or buyers can’t be fooled which had happened lots of times to artiste who cover-ups.

Yeah maybe a verbal achknowledgement would have helped but with viewers nowadays who are busy shouting or oogling at the singers rather than listening to them might not even listen to them acknowledging the sessionist! Haha! . I was sitting near Aliff’s fans and they weren’t even listening to him singing most of the time!

To educate the mass public is important for future competitions like this and the judges plays a vital role in giving the right comments for the singers to improve on as well as the viewers to think about When will that day come? I dunno.

I didn’t want Aliff to win but I have to admit that Aliff did improve a little during the finals – he overcame his “falsetto” fashion. I always find that his falsetto during the high notes as anti-climax for every song he performed.
Surprisingly, he did none during the finals but still i’m not overwhelmed. It’s just that I find Aliff is capable of correcting his flaws if someone can point them to him.
Some may agree some may not but I’ve said my piece. Oh well. Congrats, Aliff. Whatever.

Very true. Again, most unfortunately enough, the success of a singer is based on the number of albums sold (which includes image, audio technology, etc etc) and NOT the quality of live performances which will, hopefully, be improved as time goes by. This would be of a great advantage to starlets like Aliff.

The good-voiced ones would have to, sad to say, release their albums WITHOUT their image on their album cover. OR maybe a distorted (read: Makeover) image of themselves. Then their album will sell. And then they will be justified as being successes.

Let’s not make the mistake made by our most talented Sporeans to date, Nuradee.

This has been a really nice, matured and academic forum, albeit between just Izarrudin and myself. It is so unlike the immature audience of anugerah’s forum.

Looking at the friendly jousting between Neutralist and Izarr, I must say I agree with most of what the former has to say, coming from someone who has been there and done that. In fact, I think you’ve just answered about everything that I wanted to say in here but did not get to.

And yes, we all might have differing views from the other, but at least we keep it friendly and sensible. That’s why I hate to join all those forums out there cos there’s just too many “anak2 strawberry” to contend with. HapyHady forum is one fine example…

Yes Neutralist, the success of a singer greatly depends on the number of albums being sold but you too have to take note that too depends on is how hard the marketing team is pushing this album, I mean a mere press conference or album launching will not be enough.

There had to be promotions in motion, ads published, airplays and as Suria is involved I’m sure they will be sacrifing their airtime to promote this album too. Which infact that’s what they should be doing

As for live performances yeah they can keep Aliff for awhile by not letting him perform but if he doesn’t improve real soon he’ll be facing the wraths of enthusiast once again. Which too could be a part of marketing hehe

Yeah technology can hide anything nowadays which also depends on how much they are willing to pump in the $$$ into this project. I mean taking him as a soloist is a gamble I’m sure to any recording company in his current knowledge on vocal techniques. I dunno if he could understand what the producer wants and if he’s able to live up to their expectations. All the best to him on that. ANyways, it’s been a good discussion

Ok, here’s my comment, I dunno about other country but looking at Singapore and Malaysia….. people here judge on looks first! then talent, its true u sell better if you have the looks and stuff of course muzik itu seni .. seni itu indah , dan orang yang menyampaikan pun nak kena indah lah rupa, memang betul tu tetapi, cuba kita lihat ke barat, Skill/talents come first, then your looks, anyway i agree with izarrudin, looks u can groom easily but not talents, maybe u can runaway or hide in Albums but come to live performance, which semua orang menanti2 your very first LIVE performance, thats when people will really have high expectations on you, kalau yang suka cover2 pakai technology and electronics, jawablah lepas tu ye laku ke tak laku, senang cakap tengok aje macam Siti Nirhaliza, simple , pasal vocal dia in Albums and live performance, we all know shes VERY SUPER DOOPER Good, why? pasal dia versatile and suara dia susah nak “hantok”(kalahkan), so TALENT dulu mesti ada then work on your image, Orang kiter kena tukar mentality sikit, ikut contoh negeri-negeri lain, Macam American Idol Reuben, berbadan gemuk kalau banding dengan Ricky Martin , siapa lagi kacak? tak payah tanya pun kan?, tetapi dia menang pasal suara dia bagos dan merdu, dan masyarakat sana really look into talents, thats why they have plenty or alot of talented musicians, singers etc etc and they are rich in that kaya dengan penyanyi bakat etc etc… about Alif and Maiya, yes ALiff hes very young, i m a singer myself, my judgement is hes ok he can sing but need to bursh up touch up and as he grows older his voice will change abit and more polish and mature… for Maiya shes older and shes good as well, but to me voting system is abit unfair to judge a talent, coz even if ure good but ure married man for e.g for sure ull lose the competition..to someone whos young his singing ok ok, actually its two diff thing Seni untuk rakyat atau Seni untuk seni, to me nowadays its more to Seni untuk rakyat atau masyrakat, which basically it means Business in Music, bakat dah tak penting yang penting daya memikat orang ramai so that these production companies will make more money out of these young singers, kalau kiter lihat betol2 theres more ramai peminat perempuan di pangku sekolah dari dewasa mengalu alu idola mereka, yang terpekik telolong bila penyanyi lelaki membuat persembahan, kalau begini Penyanyi wanita tak mempunyai ramai peminatlah.. just my piece of opinion, but you can take look into it and fikir2kanlah.
