Set in 1925, Leatherheads stars George Clooney as American football player Dodge Connolly, who realises that football games need to attract much bigger crowds if the sport is going to survive. With that in mind, he persuades agent CC Frazier (Jonathan Pryce) to allow college football star-slash-war hero Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) to play for Connolly’s team, in the hopes that Carter’s nationwide fame will result in massive crowds.

This time round, the makers of Epic Movie attempt to spoof disaster movies but don’t seem to have got further than the plot of Cloverfield. Will (Matt Lanter), Lisa (Kim Kardashian), Calvin (Gary Johnson) and Juney (Crista Flanagan as a pregnant Juno) are partying in a New York loft when asteroids start raining down outside, causing everyone to panic and attempt to flee the city.

It’s a relevant query not only because the ebullient musical is packed to the gills with songs made famous by the Swedish ’70s supergroup, but also because ABBA’s fluffy, feel-good anthems really capture the vibe of the whole movie. Don’t let the presence of its grande dame star Meryl Streep fool you — Sophie’s Choice it ain’t. But if you’re willing to forego such trifles as a solid, believable plot, or clear, well-developed characters, this flick will do the trick to release your inner “Dancing Queen”.

Directing duo the Pang Brothers (Danny and Oxide) remake their own 1999 Thai thriller with Nicolas Cage as Joe, a hit man with a strict set of self-defined rules who’s come to Bangkok to execute four enemies of ruthless crime boss Surat (Nirattsai Kaljareuk). To cover his tracks, Joe hires street punk Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm) as a go-between, with the intention of killing him off once the job finishes.
