loves creating a buzz! movies. music. tv shows. concerts. events. reviews.

This time round, the makers of Epic Movie attempt to spoof disaster movies but don’t seem to have got further than the plot of Cloverfield. Will (Matt Lanter), Lisa (Kim Kardashian), Calvin (Gary Johnson) and Juney (Crista Flanagan as a pregnant Juno) are partying in a New York loft when asteroids start raining down outside, causing everyone to panic and attempt to flee the city.
However, Will’s girlfriend Amy (Vanessa Minillo) is working in the Natural History Museum (from Night at the Museum) and gets trapped by a falling statue when the asteroids hit. Will and his friends head uptown to try and rescue Amy and end up meeting an assortment of characters including: Batman, Iron Man, Hellboy, Hulk, the Chipmunks, the Enchanted Princess (Nicole Parker), Indiana Jones (Tony Cox), the girls from Sex and the City and the Kung Fu Panda.

The writers are obviously convinced that just chucking in a spoof scene from a well known movie (and there are plenty, including Wanted, Superbad, 10,000 BC and Step Up), inflicting pain on a celebrity lookalike (Hannah Montana getting crushed by an asteroid) or referencing a TV show is enough to get laughs. It isn’t.
The actors do their best but you end up feeling horribly embarrassed for them as there isn’t a single funny joke in the entire movie. You can’t even enjoy it for shallow and obvious reasons, as Kim Kardashian gets killed off early on.
Overall is it worth seeing, in a word, no. Disaster Movie is lazily written, insulting rubbish and it’s unquestionably one of the worst films of the year. Avoid like your life depended on it. A totally disasterous movie.
