Action hero Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), fat-suit-loving fart gag supremo Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black) and Oscar-winning Australian method actor Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr) are uniting for the first time to make a Vietnam epic for studio boss Les Grossman (Tom Cruise). They dutifully pile into the jungle along with a neurotic British director (Steve Coogan), the grizzled author of the book the film’s based on (Nick Nolte) and an over-enthusiastic explosives expert (Danny McBride).

It’s written and directed by Martin McDonagh, In Bruges stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell as Ken and Ray, two Irish hitmen who are ordered to hide out in Bruges, Belgium after a job in London goes badly wrong. Told to sit tight and await further instructions from their boss (Ralph Fiennes as Harry), the pair attempt to entertain themselves: Ken decides to explore the city’s rich medieval history, while Ray falls for an attractive local (Clemence Poesy as Chloe) and befriends a sex-crazed dwarf actor (Jordan Prentice).

After a couple of unknown (unpopular) movies, director Guy Ritchie wisely returns to Lock, Stock territory with RocknRolla, a multi-character thriller set in London’s criminal underworld. Tom Wilkinson plays Lenny, an old school gangster who gets involved in a shady property deal with Abramovich-like Russian billionaire Uri (Karel Roden), only for Uri’s priceless “lucky painting” to go missing while under Lenny’s care.

Who would have thought a movie that was as cliché and unoriginal as this would make my cry laughing. There were moments where I was shouting out obscenities because of how funny the flick was. The big thing to know is that the movie starts off awful.
