Movie Review : Grand Torino

Impressively directed, emotionally engaging drama with a strong script and a terrific performance from Clint Eastwood.

Clint Eastwood directs and stars as Walt Kowalski, a grizzled Korean War veteran who has just lost his wife and is furious when his family tentatively suggest he might want to move into a retirement home. Fiercely proud, Walt doesn’t want to move, despite the fact that he’s one of the few white people left in his multi-ethnic Michigan neighbourhood.

Movie Review : Confessions Of A Shopaholic

A disappointing romcom that suffers from an irritating lead character, an under-used supporting cast, a largely unfunny script and a cluttered, unsatisfying plot that’s at least 30 minutes too long.

Confessions of a Shopaholic is based on the popular series of chick-lit novels by Sophie Kinsella and stars Isla Fisher as ditzy New York singleton Rebecca Bloomwood, who shares a flat with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) and dreams of a job on a fashion magazine. Instead, she winds up as a journalist for a financial magazine run by handsome editor Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy), where she quickly captures the public’s imagination as a columnist known as The Girl With The Green Scarf, despite knowing next to nothing about finance.

Movie Review : Hotel For Dogs

Whilst not as funny as it could have been, Hotel For Dogs gets by on sheer charm, thanks to a likeable cast, a decent script, pacey direction and a high cuteness factor.

Directed by Thor Freudenthal, Hotel for Dogs stars Emma Roberts and Jake T Austin as feisty orphans Andi (16) and Bruce (11). Frustrated with their wannabe rock-star foster parents (Lisa Kudrow and Kevin Dillon), they keep getting into trouble, in the hopes that their kindly social worker (Don Cheadle) will find them somewhere else to live.

Movie Review : Paul Blart Mall Cop

Comedian Kevin James takes on the role of screenwriter, together with Nick Bakay, in the Steve Carr-directed turkey Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Next time, he might want to leave the screenwriting to the professionals.

Our mall cop–that’s Blart, played by James–has nothing going on in life. He’s a single dad whose wife left him once she got her green card; his superiors make fun of him to his face, and so does the sleazy pen salesman who’s hitting on the girl he likes.

Movie Review : Race To Witch Mountain

Who doesn’t love Dwyane (nee “The Rock” Johnson)? Seriously, how can anyone not like the guy? He’s a total babe with a killer smile, great sense of humor and body the gods can only envy. Having left his superstar status in the world of professional wrestling behind him, Johnson has quickly established himself as genuine movie star, and to the delight of audiences, the guy can act. Team this hunk of hulk with appealing and photogenic kids Alexander Ludwig and AnnaSophia Robb, throw in a non-stop action chase story and a couple bad guys in pursuit and you have the next hit Disney movie. Race To Witch Mountain is is one hell of fun ride.
