Movie Review : X-Men Origins : Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is everything one would expect from an X-Men movie, but unfortunately it cannot entirely escape its, er, origins as a prequel.

“I’m going to shoot Wolverine point blank with some adamantium bullets. It won’t kill him, but he’ll forget everything that has happened to him!” the villain snarls.
“Why?” a sidekick wants to know.
“Because this is a prequel, damn it!” the villain replies. “And we all know that Wolverine suffers from memory loss and has no idea of how he got to be Wolverine at the start of the first X-Men movie !”
And so he does…

Movie Review : Notorious

A watchable, if admittedly one-sided, biopic with a handful of strong performances, though it rarely scratches the surface of its subject and wears out its welcome long before the end.

Directed by George Tillman Jr and tellingly produced by both Sean “Puffy” Combs and Biggie’s own mother, Voletta Wallace, Notorious charts the remarkable rise of hip hop legend Christopher Wallace (Jamal Woolard), aka Biggie Smalls, aka The Notorious B.I.G., before his untimely death at the age of 24 in a drive-by shooting. Framed by the night of Biggie’s death, the film traces his childhood as a straight-A student (Biggie’s son Christopher Wallace plays the young Biggie, Angela Bassett plays his mother) and his early life as a drug dealer, jailbird and teenage father, before his freestyle rap tape brings him to the attention of producer Sean “Puffy” Combs (Derek Luke).

Movie Review : Revolutionary Road

Beautifully shot, superbly written drama that exerts a powerful emotional grip and features terrific performances from a reunited Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Directed by Sam Mendes and based on the acclaimed novel by Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road reunites Titanic stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to play Frank and April Wheeler, a suburban couple in 1950s Connecticut, whose marriage is in trouble. Flashbacks reveal that Frank and April married after a whirlwind romance, their shared hopes and dreams swiftly replaced by the stultifying suburban life (including a house, two kids and a routine city job for Frank) they had always professed to despise.
