Directed by JJ Abrams, Star Trek is a reboot of the original Star Trek franchise that tells how future Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) first met half-human, half-Vulcan future First Officer Spock (Zachary Quinto) and details their first adventure together aboard the USS Enterprise. Unsurprisingly, they begin the film as bitter rivals at the Star Fleet academy, before a galactic threat in the form of Romulan Captain Nero (Eric Bana) unites them aboard the Starship Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) and alongside its fledgling crew: communications officer Uhura (Zoe Saldana); helmsman Sulu (John Cho); Doctor Leonard “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban); ship’s engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott (Simon Pegg); and the Enterprise’s youngest officer, 17-year-old whizz-kid Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin).

The film also looks terrific throughout, from the gleaming white decks of the Enterprise to the stunning space battle sequences. In addition, Abrams orchestrates some genuinely thrilling action set-pieces, whilst delivering powerfully emotional moments that are firmly rooted in the characters.
It’s also worth pointing out that the annoying squeaky-voiced junior Kirk from the trailers only appears in that one scene. Similarly, Simon Pegg’s not nearly as irritating as his “I like this ship – it’s exciting!” line in the trailer would seem to indicate.
Rebooting such a beloved franchise must have seemed like a huge gamble at the time, but, incredibly, Abrams has pulled it off, thanks to a terrific cast, thrilling action scenes and a superbly written script. The result is one of the best films of the year and the blockbuster to beat this summer.

Cast seems interesting, and going through your review it maybe an interesting movie. Should watch it. The comments are not so encouraging but still will watch it.
this new Star Trek is probably the best movie I’ve seen in the theaters all year; the new cast did an awesome job emulating the originals as did the script writers — tons of fun
