This week theme was ‘Rentak Kita’ by the male contestants, the Anugerettes would be performing local songs therefor its another pat on the back to Suria for supporting our growing music industry but a little disappointed because when the contestants performed their local piece, the super does not show the title of the song therefor it came short in promoting the song 100% on TV. Yes, the title and singer of the song were mentioned by the host before they start performing but then TV is also about visual so I hope next time the super shows title of the songs at least.
In this third episode, some might be wondering where’s episode two? Apparently the result show which happened on the same day as episode one is actually episode two. 8 Anugerettes being separated into 2 groups. Called ‘Kumpulan A’ and ‘Kumpulan B’, there will be group performance coming ahead which the producers wanted to challenged the boys on choreography. A good challenge but making them sing and dance made them look so bad, I guess the camera can’t bare to show the whole group dancing too long on TV. So TV viewers, didn’t have the privilege to see the mediocre dancing done by them as a group. I was asking my brother who’s watching along with me. “Did you see them dancing?” — “No”. I rest my case.
As for the hosts, Fauzie Laily and Fiza O. this week they were getting better, but there’s still hiccups a little here and there, still getting the nerves on live TV program so hope to see them do a smooth one as time goes by. Having Hassan Salleh as one of the judges was a good idea since he’s THE radio guy, his comments would be direct and simple which he did and surprisingly this week all the judges gave informative and good comments on the contestants. Congratulations on the judges for a good job last night.
Now moving on to the review of the contestants. ‘Kumpulan A’ consists of Kamsani, Ize, Wawan and Azhar.
Kamsani goes first opening a great number, ‘Cinta Ku’ by Merah, which could hype up the crowd and make a good first impression but he just fall short of doing that. Still an admirable performance, he just need to hit his dance moves next time. As for his vocal performance, its an average one because this song does not really test ones vocals but he did just enough but I’m still questioning his nasal voice during high notes is it natural or being done purposely? Hope someone can enlighten me on this. No votes for him tonight for being average.
Next was Ize, performing Kau Bintang by Jaliboy. A good song which would test one vocally and it really did. Ize starting a little shaky, going flat on some of the low notes but he gets better in the middle and he hits the chorus perfectly with his clean powerful voice, has a good range as well. Pretty confident performance on a whole but he needs to work harder for his falsetto and stage presence. Ize set a benchmark for this performance. 2 votes for him tonight.
Wawan came on screen looking pretty confident maybe because he knows he’s at the top on votes but singing ‘Kasih Mengapa’ by Rauzan didn’t actually help in his performance. He has feel for this song, dynamics are good but he didn’t really give me a confident performance. Simply said, there’s no power in his voice. A little disappointed since he didn’t show much improvement. No votes tonight for him.
The last performer for ‘Kumpulan A’ was Azhar, after a ‘not powerful’ performance by Wawan this one went over the bar from my benchmark. Singing ‘Adakah Mungkin’ by Iskandar Ismail, he sang it beautiful. His clean voice and rockstar confidence made this performance the best one on the night. His dynamics was good, he feel the song really well and a powerful voice to boot. Hope the TV viewers had a great time watching his performance at home. 2 votes for him.
‘Kumpulan B’ consists of Chirul, Izam, Sein and Hydir.
Chirul to perform first and he sang ‘Selalu’ by Fauzie Laily. Chirul has a good tone which I noticed last week but he still does not have dynamics in his singing. Giving a rather straight flat vocal performance again. I realized also his vocal range is not that wide as well. A powerless performance. Practice more for him. No vote tonight.
Izam was next, again expecting him to perform well with “Andai” by Merah yet he fall short of doing that. He feel the song but there’s simply no power in his vocals to carry this song well and make it a memorable performance. An average total performance will not get any votes from me. So again not vote for tonight.
Singing ‘Lelaki Baru’ by Zaibaktian was Sein. We know he can’t dance and he tried to do something at the start of the song. Admirable but would have preferred not him doing that since its on TV. Any mistakes are magnified on TV so please to all the contestants if you can’t do it confidently, either you don’t do it of you practice hard to make it work. He again with most of the contestants didn’t justify the song with his performance. A little pitchy here and there but his closing just made me cringe a little. Practice more Sein. No votes tonight for him.
Next came the most anticipated Anugerettes, Hydir. Singing Aliff Aziz’s ‘Nyala’. A great compliment for to the original singer, Hydir made this song his. His vocals are on par to Ize and Azhar tonight but for me he still lacking in the feel for the song. Yes he can carry this song really well but he didn’t really hit the notes really well either. Sometimes going off pitch at some parts of the song you just feel like saying to him, Listen boy listen! He needs more practice. He has a husky tone which I don’t really favour so only 1 vote for him.
The group performance, I can’t really give a good review on it, since it was a challenge segment for the Anugerettes, I was expecting a ‘wow’ performance from all of them but none produce it on screen. Which now made me feel this segment is just to fill up time rather than showing off their capabilities. It would have been better to use this extra time on letting them sing a full song, that’s my opinion.

1. Wawan
