I can confidently say, Anugerah 2009 could produce the best vocal performer in the history of this competition and it’s going to be a woman winning it after so long. Tonight’s performance simply made me believe that Singapore actually has good female singers waiting to stand up and be counted.
I personally find that the ladies will be much better than the men since the start of this competition simply because only the ladies are capable of making me point out who could be a potential star in this competition. Tonight all Suria viewers will agree with me when they saw what they did just now. They managed to outperformed and out shown all the male Anugerettes from last week show.
Starting of with the results for last week, two male contestants will have to leave this competition and personally I don’t really mind that much who will go except for Azhar because for me he did pretty good last week and he managed to survive this round. The two that had to leave was Ize and Izam. Ize was a surprise but in a reality show, less votes means you’re out. So all the best to both of them with their future in this industry.
Male Anugerettes Ranking
1. Hydir
2. Wawan
3. Chirul
4. Azhar
5. Sein
6. Kamsani
Next came the ladies to perform, as usual the eight of them were split into two groups, ‘Kumpulan A’ and ‘Kumpulan B’. Still in Rentak Kita week which is performing our local songs. Kudos to Suria for doing this.
‘Kumpulan A’ consists of Nora, Yanie, Asilah and Hafizah.
Nora was the first to perform, she was in the top three in term of votes so my expectations of her is quite high and she didn’t disappoint. She has good vocals and her dynamics for this song was good which means she felt the song and managed to convey it through her performance. Furthermore she has the right package and confidence. Maintain Nora. One vote for her.
Next was Yanie, she on the other hand lacking the feel for the song. She sang it with nice vocals, I’m sure some would like her voice but her dynamics were weak. A little too straight in her singing. Maybe she didn’t manage to absorb the song fully and understand the lyrics. Work harder Yanie. Sorry no vote for her tonight.
Asilah did quite well but I just feel she did an average performance on the whole. A little off key here and there. She started quite well but when it came to the chorus she became nervous, thinking too much about hitting her notes rather than feeling the song. Usually chorus is the part that would make or break a singers performance and she broke it. All the best to Asilah. No vote for her too.
Hafizah nicknamed ‘Cili Padi’ by Eddie Ali. She started quite nervously, a little shaky which is worrying because first impression counts as well but her chorus which was a difficult one to carry, she did it quite well. She managed to hit some of the high notes, admirable performance by her. This is a classic example of how a chorus part can save your performance. Keep it up girl! One vote for her.
‘Kumpulan B’ which consists of Nani, Catty, Kunjung and Sarah.
First came Nani, she was quite confident and at one point looked a little cocky but that’s not a bad thing. You need confidence to go on stage and perform. Nice vocal but she sounded a little out of breath during her chorus or maybe not feeling the song but more of technically trying to sing the song. Work harder Nani. No votes for her.
Catty was next, the number one voters choice before the show. I can’t deny that her feel for the song was excellent and her vocals was good too. Since day one she had impressed with her vocals that’s why she’s number one in votes. Vocally great, visually its not, so please work on her image. Catty work it out. One vote for her.
Since the audition days, many had took noticed of her due to her confidence as well as vocals and tonight she confirmed her passage to the finals with her singing. Her confidence level is of a different level than the rest of the contestants and people can see it clearly when she performs. Keep it up Kunjung. One vote for her.
Next was Sarah, after watching Kunjung I felt pity for Sarah because she need to outdo Kunjung or she will sink. She didn’t really start impressively for me but another classic example of a superb chorus part that made people remember you for so long. She managed to hit most of high notes almost flawlessly. She’s the first Anugerette that really caught my attention, she has great potential. Keep it up! Two votes for her!
Next came the group performance for the choreography challenge. Both groups actually did quite well and finally I can see they were actually dancing on TV thank you cameraman and director for showing more wide views of their performance. Overall they really impresses me more than the guys. Watch out guys you really need to work much harder to gain votes and impress “neautrals” like me who’s watching at home.
