Nadirah is also the product of a mixed marriage. Her father is a Malaysian Malay and her mother a Singaporean Chinese who had converted to Islam. At eight, however, Nadirah’s parents divorced and Nadirah was brought back to Singapore by her mother.
One day, Nadirah’s mother brings news for her: she’s going to re-marry. To a man who’s not Muslim. Nadirah finds that all she can do is pray that her mother changes her mind. How does Nadirah negotiate relations between various religions in school when she has problems handling them in her own house? Can mother and daughter worship different gods? Will Nadirah re-join her father in Malaysia? Blood is thicker than water but what is thicker than blood?
