Movie Review : From Paris With Love

“From Paris With Love” shows you a wild and crazy side of John Travolta you have not seen before. You may have thought you had seen it all when he played a woman in “Hairspray” or even when he played good and bad roles in “Face/Off.” Then there was his career starting role as the singing/dancing Danny in “Grease.” But in “From Paris With Love” he out does all his other roles as he plays a profanity spewing killing machine named Charlie Wax.

The focus in “From Paris With Love” is on diplomatic attaché and CIA trainee James Reece (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). He lives in Paris with his girlfriend Caroline (Kasia Smutniak) and works for Ambassador Bennington (Richard Durden). He also moonlights as a CIA trainee of sorts.

Movie Review : Dear John

We all remember “The Notebook” and the love story brought to life by novel writer Nicholas Sparks. Sorry to say that this novel could not translate on the big screen for many factors, but we will get to that later.

“Dear John” follows the life of two lovers who have a chance encounter resulting in love after two weeks. Channing Tatum is John a soldier who is on a short leave from base and Amanda Seyfried as Savannah, a college student who seems to have a heart of gold. The pair immediately has a connection and spends the next two weeks together, basically inseparable. That is until it is time for John to return to base. Promising each other that they will make this relationship work and want to discover everything they can about each other they begin writing. Letters continuously flow back and forth until finally a year later it is almost time for John to return home from his time served to his country.

Movie Review : Bright Star

Beautifully directed, superbly written and powerfully emotional drama with terrific performances from Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish.

Written and directed by Jane Campion, Bright Star is set in 1819 and stars Ben Whishaw as 23-year-old poet John Keats, who lives in Hampstead with his friend Charles (Paul Schneider). When Keats meets Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), the 18-year-old daughter of his next door neighbour (Kerry Fox), their initial sparring soon blossoms into an intense love affair.

Movie Review : Nine

Movie Review : Nine

Enjoyable, beautifully shot and superbly acted musical, heightened by show-stoppingly sexy musical numbers, even if the songs themselves aren’t especially memorable.

Not to be confused with 9, District 9 or The Nines, Nine is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and based on the stage musical that was adapted from Federico Fellini’s Oscar-winning, semi-autobiographical 1963 film 8 ½. Set in the 1960s, the film stars Daniel Day-Lewis as world famous Italian film director Guido Contini, who’s about to go into production on his highly anticipated ninth film, even though he doesn’t have a script and is suffering from a severe case of writer-director’s block.
