AnugeraHitz.sg was an inaugural Malay music award show that’s co-organized by Mediacorp Suria, Ria 89.7FM, Warna 94.2FM and Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS). It’s heartening to see lots of our local musicians coming together for this event. It’s the first ever truly 100% Singapore music award show. Appreciating and rewarding the best talents in our Malay music industry.

Themed ‘Rock Nation’, all who came were clad in rock outfits, some were subtle (like me) and some were into it all the way (which is fun to watch). Being invited as friends of media, once again thank you to Suria for this opportunity, I managed to capture the ‘Red Carpet’ event. Though it was a relaxed atmosphere, knowing some of the nominees, there’s always a tinch of nervousness and hope in their hearts that it will be their night.

After being called to be seated at 8pm was a relieved, the excitement builds up as the event nears. It’s was my first media coverage in Mediacorp Theater, therefor I didn’t know ropes that much. Thanks to PujanggaMalam for mentioning that our media passes allows us to move around the theater so we could capture the best pictures. In the end we both ended in front of the stage and it was the best seat in the house (though on the floor but it’s still the best).

Versatile Fauzie Laily and cheerful Ria DJ Fiza O
AnugeraHitz.sg was hosted by the versatile Fauzie Laily and cheerful Ria DJ Fiza O as well as the young and cute Mujahid (MJ). The awards (a little weird looking) were given away by a line up of glamorous people, they were Najib Ali, Art Fazil, Hetty Sarlene, Moliano, Ann Hussein, radio DJs Nity Baizura, Hafeez Glamour, Aura Shai and Tahar Ghaib (TG) as well as mum-to-be Nurul Aini and Mawar Berduri (Ahli Fiqir).

Opening act Roze, Zul Mystroe, Daly Ahli Fiqir and Sleeq
The performers for this event too were a glamorous mix of juniors and seniors in the Malay music industry. The show was opened by by Roze, Zul Mystroe, Daly Ahli Fiqir and Sleeq with their own R&B/Hip-Hop version of Berpindah Minda by LoveHunters. A great opening that hyped up the event nicely.

Yantzen and Hanafie rocked the stage!
Yantzen and Hanafie Warren rocked out the show with their rendition of evergreen hits Rintangan Hidup Dunia and Sampai Bila. Their segment really made me snapped away taking pictures of them due to their energy on stage. That’s how hard rock music can affect you especially if you’re a rocker in your heart (winks).

Sezairi charming performance
Our latest Singapore Idol, Sezairi Sezali making his debut performance on Suria, performing an acoustic version of Art Fazil’s Merindu Kepastian (love this song). It was a charming performance by the man.

Beautiful performance by Eiss & Nana
Powerful voices from Iskandar R. Ismail (Eiss) and Nana performed the ‘Best Song’ category in medley. Using their experience and creativity they brought the songs to a new level, beautifully sang and it was a memorable performance. There was also a tribute segment to Haron Abdul Majid, a great composer and lyricist with evergreen songs like Dalam Kenangan and Dulu Dan Sekarang sung by Elfee R. Ismail.

The winners of 3 Most Popular Songs category were also given the opportunity to belt it out on stage presenting their songs. The audiences went crazy and were singing along to these popular songs by Taufik Batisah (Nafasku), Didicazli feat Sleeq (Impianku) and Taufik again with Hady Mizra (Kepadanya). Personally love Kepadanya and watching the two Singapore Idols on stage performing.

Rahimah Rahim the Anugerah Primera receiver
In addition, a special award ‘Anugerah Primera’ was given away to an established and recognized individual who have made significant contributions to our music industry. This award was given to Rahimah Rahim. A singer extraordinaire who still has passion in her heart to share her talent till now. In honor of her, Sarah Aqilah (Annugerah 2009 winnder) sang her evergreen hit song, Hati Yang Rapuh. A wonderful performance by Sarah and looking gorgeous too.

Revalina the Best New Duo/Group
Overall, I was entertained and quiet happy with the results as it was rather predictable in some categories but there were surprise winners too which in the end brought a little excitement to the event. Revalina and Erza Diorama were the underdogs in their category but due to their win, there’s a sign of hope that this music industry will not be dominated by just popularity alone but talents as well.

A heartfelt congratulations to the organizers of this event in gathering and appreciating our music makers and lovers. I really hope this event will be around for many years and continue to be upgraded for our talents to have something to aim for, a new focus to bring their work to another level. As all the rockers at heart will say, “Rock Never Die”.
