Event Review : SingTel-Samsung Galaxy S Media Launch

6th June 2010 is a day with a few firsts for me accompanied by Noratiyah my photographer for the day, it’s the day for my first tech media launch, visit to Marina Bay Sands Expo and of course first encounter with a K-Pop boy band, Super Junior. The event is SingTel-Samsung Galaxy S Media Launch. Some of you may wonder what is Samsung Galaxy S?

Get ready for the tech stuff! Samsung Galaxy S is the brightest smartphone in the market today. It’s has mind boggling capabilities and technical statistics that any geek would love to have as a phone. Powered by the latest Android 2.1 (50,000 applications and rising) and 1GHz processor with Samsung’s advance 4.0″ WVGA 16M SUPER AMOLED (800×480) screen it’s very responsive to the touch. I had personally played around with this phone it’s thin and light in my hand. The sharpness of the display that attracts the eye also capable of recording in HD (1270×720, 30fps) on it’s 5MP camera.

The phone is light at just 118g and only 9.9mm thick. It has also a fun way of writing your text messages using SWYPE where you don’t need to lift your finger when you type just drag to the keys, just for the fun of it. Not forgetting this smartphone also comes with 16GB memory more than enough space for your photos, videos and music. It also does wireless tethering that connects your laptop in non-WiFi enabled areas (very important function this is). Think of getting one already?

How about Super Junior? Making this media launch extra special is the appearance of popular K-Pop band Super Junior (SUJU) for this launch. Singtel had mentioned that it’s customer will be experiencing more of these events if the support is good and I’m pretty sure if the band is right, the support will be there. Nine members came for this launch, they were Lee Teuk, Hee Chul, Ye Sung, Shin Dong (my fav), Sung Min, Eun Hyuk, Dong Hae, Si Won and Ryeo Wook. As I’ve mentioned it’s my first encounter with them, it’s amazing to watch the great reception and love given by the media and fans.

Super Junior was excited and happy to be in Singapore and launching this new phone. Each of it’s members had been give a phone for them to discover and they even uploaded pictures and tweeted about their visit using the Samsung Galaxy S. I was particularly surprised at how fun this bunch of guys were. Shin Dong particularly attracted my attention being a size bigger than the rest but mainly because he managed to lighten the mood in the middle of an interview session by discovering a “clapping & whistling” audio sample included in the phone and playing it after every member answered a question. (making me wonder who were clapping and whistling when we were all so engrossed with them initially).

Overall this media launch by SingTel was a great experience, thank you to Shabirin. Super Junior had entertained me with their friendliness. Samsung Galaxy S had blown me away with its stats and functions. Now I think it’s time to change to a new phone and listen to more K-Pop music (hehe!).
