When I received this SingTel-Samsung Galaxy S Media Launch invitation, I was pretty excited about it because it’s my first tech launch, then I realised it also includes the Super Junior showcase by SingTel that all the K-Pop fans in Singapore had been raving about. Due to this, I had a quick research on Super Junior online, knowing their faces and also the songs especially the popular ones (so kiasu).
Right after the media launch, with a couple of media friends (Zalinah and Noratiyah), we went to Marina Bay Sands Expo, Hall B. This is where the first ever Super Junior showcase will happen. Reaching the venue, I saw fans literally running, some were even crying wanting to catch this popular group. The que was so long I think it spans the whole expo building.
The first good impression about this event was how secure this venue is. The security was the best I had ever seen for a showcase. Then while walking, a huge SUPER JUNIOR letter blocks came into view and of course I just had to take a picture with it (hehe!)
Once I entered the dark hall, the fans were already being hyped up by our hosts (Belinda is one of them). The fans came with posters, banners and even LED lights just to make sure their favorites see them even from the stage. Almost 2000 of them and mostly girls so you can already imagine how loud their screams will be when it happened.
After about 30 mins of hyping up the crowd, it’s time to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S to the public. A short segment and the fans know after this their idols will be taking over the stage. How true and predictable is that? Very true! (wohooo!)
Opening their performance with the number one hit song Bonamana, the hall was drowned by the screaming, the camera flashes as well as bodies dancing away to the beat. Due to the situation where the stage is high and the fans were seen shuffling and pushing I had to take over the camera and be the photographer for this showcase (Noratiyah is not cut out for this one yet hehe!).
Then when Ye Sung sang the solo number It Has to Be You, a moment when the girls were swooned by his vocals and good looks it’s chaos once again.
Not forgetting they also celebrated Ryeo Wook birthday on stage. It’s a piano shaped one and he was being sabotaged by his friends where a tiny lump of whipped cream landed on the tip of his nose. You won’t expect what happened next… Belinda took that piece of cream off his nose and offered it to a fan which of course she (the fan) gladly licked! (OMG!)
The Super Junior sang five songs for the night and Sorry, Sorry is the last song. It’s the most popular one that brought the group to stardom on our shores so even I know this one (I know about this too, ok hehe!) The dance steps were so very popular that I saw some fans dancing to it.

Overall, it was an excellent showcase, only downside to me was the sound system that can’t be clearly heard from the people near to the stage maybe because it’s pointing towards the back. Other than that, my first encounter with a K-Pop band and their fans had been a good one. Thank you SingTel for this opportunity and hope there will be many more international acts doing showcases coming to Singapore. (Maybe SNSD or 2PM next? hehe)
Here’s a picture specially for Si Won fans. I’m just lukcy while snapping away he happened to be looking towards my direction and get to capture him waving as well. How lucky is that! So… enjoy! (*nudge* Zuraimi! Hehe!) More pictures will be uploaded on my Facebook gallery.
Here’s the popular hit song ‘Bonamana’ for your viewing pleasure!
(Catchy right? Bonamana Bonamana)
