Inspired by Nickelodeon’s popular series “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” in which Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko melded elements of martial arts, Japanese anime and relatable young characters. It is neatly transformed by the film’s writer-director, M. Night Shyamalan, into a compelling adventure in which a world’s future rests in the hands of a child.

The epic qualities of “The Last Airbender” will be familiar to any child who’s seen “The Chronicles of Narnia,” with the young protagonist forced to grow up too fast to fulfill his world-saving destiny. Shyamalan embraces that giant sweep, mounting impressive battle sequences and powerful special effects. But Shyamalan also keeps focused on the human story, drawing natural performances from his young cast.
After many attempts by Shyamalan to make a good movie, I think he did quiet well in this one. We all know this will not be a one-off movie but a franchise at the end which hopefully will get better as the story expands into other elements in the future, do watch it with the family/kids. It’s available in 3D too! You’ll see the effects better. Enjoy!

6/10??!!! You must be kidding! This is one of the worst movies of the Year! Perhaps you have been hypothesized by terrible 3D effects which is almost non-existent to begin with or perhaps the airbending has twisted your brains into wilderness, losing sights on what is good and bad.
Sure, everyone have their own opinion. But this review shows that you have lost the credibility as a movie review. Your taste is questionable.
The casting is horrendous and inappropriate. (Commander Zhao is an indian, go figure) The acting is pathetic. The characters doesn’t accurately portray the equivalent from the animation series.
All in all, a crap movie. Period.
Never had I so looked forward to a movie. Never had I been more disappointed with a movie after watching.
If you are a fan of the animation, you can skip this movie (unless you actually want to see how bad the movie really is – imagine Uncle Iroh is acted by a skinny guy).
Names are pronounced incorrectly, characters that meant to inject humour became stern characters, even martial art choreographies are all wrong.
The animation series definitely have devoted more time researching than the movie — actually, I have a feeling that the movie production team may not have watched the entire animation series.
Yes, it is that bad!
