Episode 1 had showcased the new talents for Anugerah 2011. A promising batch this season, making it pretty difficult to choose who’s really the best since almost all of them performed well except for the guys group performance though.
A flurry of votes came in from the start of the show till 10pm and at 10.30pm comes Episode 2, the Results show. Six contestants were to be eliminated and the rest will move on to the next round. It was a tough choice between the female contestants since they outshoned the males for the night. As for the guys there were some unexpected results but I’m sure there were good reasons behind it.

April 26th marks the debut of Anugerah 2011. Upon arriving, I wasn’t having any expectations from the new talents for this season mainly because I know they won’t have enough ‘singing time’ to showcase their full potential as well as disappointments experienced from previous season. Talking to some insiders though, I was told this batch is a better one. Now that sounded promising.
Starting of the show with the Anugerah 2011 theme song, composed by Shahridzuan Selamat of Revalina and sang by winners of Anugerah, Sarah Aqilah, Aliff Aziz and Hyrul Anuar. A pretty good opening involving all the contestants to dance on stage. The show was hosted by ‘veteran’ Fauzie Laily and Huda Ali as well as co-hosted by the cheerful DJ Nity Baizura.
This year judges we have familiar faces like Eddy Ali and Ann Hussein with additional new face, Sheikh Haikel. The guest judge was Amin Hussen, MD of Beyond DDB. The support given this year in the TV Theater is pretty good with supporters donning their own colors bringing along banners and placards with strong cheers for the contestants.
While I was snapping away pictures usually I had to take note of the contestants that’s good and not so good (trying to avoid using the word bad hehe). As the episode ended, especially during their solo performance, surprisingly they all sounded pretty good. Only less than a handful of them that sounded a little off maybe due to nervousness but generally all of them performed well. The group performances though, it’s something the male contestants have to work hard on because the females simply win them on confidence hands down.
The Top 18 waiting for their results…
Maybe next week I will be able to feel more for the contestants and I will have a better judgment towards their ability to entertain and break into the already tough and small industry.

Firstly, I’m sorry for this really short review on this week Anugerah. I was in JB when it was shown live on TV therefor I had to depend on my friend Illa, to let me know what’s going on.
The information that was provided were, the four Anugerettes that managed to go thru the semi-finals directly were Chirul, Wawan, Catty and Kunjung. Personally I don’t really fancy the result but as any reality show goes, the more votes you have it’s very likey you’ll win and move on in the competition so, congratulations to the four of them and all the best for the semi-finals and I’m pretty sure the semi-finals will be a different ball game altogether. Firstly I would like to address this irritating problem that’s happening in Anugerah 2009 and please be reminded that I’m a TV viewer. A message to rude and inconsiderate fans who likes to shout when its time to listen. Yes I know you’re excited for your “idol” but please be quiet and listen when the judges are commenting because what they say could be an important advise for the Anugerettes. Please DO shout during your “idol” performance all you want to cover their off key singing and 50-50 performances but during the judges comment, do try to listen. Thank you.
Tonight are the female Anugerettes turn to perform and this week it’s the same theme as the last, Singapore Icons in the Malay music industry, they are Anita Sarawak and Rahimah Rahim. (more…)
