Anugerah 2011 : Episode 1, Top 18

April 26th marks the debut of Anugerah 2011. Upon arriving, I wasn’t having any expectations from the new talents for this season mainly because I know they won’t have enough ‘singing time’ to showcase their full potential as well as disappointments experienced from previous season. Talking to some insiders though, I was told this batch is a better one. Now that sounded promising.

Starting of the show with the Anugerah 2011 theme song, composed by Shahridzuan Selamat of Revalina and sang by winners of Anugerah, Sarah Aqilah, Aliff Aziz and Hyrul Anuar. A pretty good opening involving all the contestants to dance on stage. The show was hosted by ‘veteran’ Fauzie Laily and Huda Ali as well as co-hosted by the cheerful DJ Nity Baizura.

This year judges we have familiar faces like Eddy Ali and Ann Hussein with additional new face, Sheikh Haikel. The guest judge was Amin Hussen, MD of Beyond DDB. The support given this year in the TV Theater is pretty good with supporters donning their own colors bringing along banners and placards with strong cheers for the contestants.

While I was snapping away pictures usually I had to take note of the contestants that’s good and not so good (trying to avoid using the word bad hehe). As the episode ended, especially during their solo performance, surprisingly they all sounded pretty good. Only less than a handful of them that sounded a little off maybe due to nervousness but generally all of them performed well. The group performances though, it’s something the male contestants have to work hard on because the females simply win them on confidence hands down.

Maybe next week I will be able to feel more for the contestants and I will have a better judgment towards their ability to entertain and break into the already tough and small industry.

The magical night of Pesta Perdana 11 is over and with results that are mostly satisfying. The juries involved did a good job in selecting the winners in this eleventh edition of a prestigious Singapore Malay entertainment awards show.

The two-hour awards show was hosted by Suhaimi Yusof, Najip Ali and Nurul Aini who have won Best Host award in Pesta Perdana. These three multi-talented artistes did a good job on the night as well.

Though this time the award show lacked performances but it didn’t lack the support for the winners of this special night.

FOX International Channels (FIC) unveiled its special Oscar® programming for Monday 28 February on STAR Movies, the No.1 Hollywood channel in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong*. Designed to build excitement for Asian audiences leading up to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards® that will broadcast LIVE at 9am (HK/SIN) on the same day across Asia, STAR Movies’ special programming will attract audiences in Malaysia and Singapore with the privilege of the EXCLUSIVE LIVE broadcast the award event on that day.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards® will be aired LIVE exclusively on STAR Movies and STAR Movies HD simultaneously (available in true HD) on Monday, 28th February, from 8:30am.

OSCAR Factsheet:

A repeat telecast will be shown on STAR Movies on the same day at 7pm.
A second repeat telecast of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards® will be aired on Star World on Sunday, 6th March, from 8.55pm.
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards® will take place at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre & Highland Center®.
James Franco and Anne Hathaway will serve as co-hosts at the 83rd Academy Awards®.

Pesta Perdana 11 – A magical night to honour the best in the Malay television industry.
Embark on the magical journey with Best Hosts Suhaimi Yusof, Najip Ali & Nurul Aini.

Once again it will be a night of glitz and glamour for Suria as it celebrates the 11th edition of its prestigious awards show, Pesta Perdana. The main objective of this show is to recognise, acknowledge and honour the best talents in the Malay television industry in Singapore.

Feel the suspense as this year’s “Magic” themed Pesta Perdana 11 will be visually captivating with entrancing performances and it will be telecast LIVE on Friday, 4 March 2011 at 8.30pm on Suria.

The mega event attracted more than 470 entries from local production houses who are vying for top honours in the fiercely contested programmes and performance award categories. This is a positive increase of more than 100 entries as compared to the previous event.

A new addition this year in the creative award category is Best Editing – Drama. A total of 26 awards are up for grabs this year.
